February 27th: Celebrate National Strawberry Day With Beerenberg
Celebrate National Strawberry Day With Beerenberg
50 Years of a Sweet Tradition
Every year, National Strawberry Day gives us the perfect reason to pause and celebrate the fruit that started our story, and continues to, half a century later. Our love for strawberries began back in 1969, when founders Grant and Carol Paech planted their first crop on the family farm in Hahndorf. Enterprising from the start, Grant sold those strawberries from his homemade roadside tin shed, a small beginning for what would soon become an iconic South Australian brand.
Just two years later in 1971, with an abundance of fresh strawberries on hand, Grant created his first batches of strawberry jam in his grandmother’s pan. All he needed was a name. He chose Beerenberg, German for Berry Hill, and with that, a brand was born.
By 1975, the Paech's took their passion one step further, pioneering a “pick your own strawberries” experience. Families, travellers, and locals flocked to the farm to wander the patch, fill their punnets, and make sweet memories under the sun.

50 Years On and We’re Still Picking!
And today, on National Strawberry Day, we’re inviting you to celebrate with us, the same way we have for generations, by heading to the patch and picking your own berries.

Here’s how it works:
Step 1 — Check We’re Open
Head to the top right corner of our website homepage on the day you plan to visit. We update patch status daily.
Step 2 — Visit the Farm Shop
Pay $5 per person (kids 12 and under are free). You’ll receive a wristband and containers for your fruit.
Step 3 — Follow the Strawberry Flag
It will lead you straight to the patch. Once inside, pick to your heart’s content, and don’t forget to share your photos tagging @beerenbergfarm for the chance to win a delicious Beerenberg prize pack.
Step 4 — Weigh & Pay
Return to the shop and pay just $13.50 per kg for the strawberries you pick.
We’re open 7 days a week (except Christmas Day), with patch entry from 9am–4.15pm and the shop open until 5pm.
As always, check the website before you come, on busy days, the patch can be “picked out”, but it only takes a day or two for the plants to bounce back.

But, before you go, treat yourself to a warm Strawberry Chocpot from our Farm Café, our favourite way to end a day in the patch.
